Publikationen

Chair of English Literary and Cultural Studies, teaches British literature and culture from the Middle Ages to the 21st century. He also has a strong interest in the New Literatures in English, especially African and Asian writings, and in Ireland and Wales. His theoretical interests range from psychoanalytic theory via deconstruction to postcolonial questions. His cultural interests focus on gender and sexuality as well as questions of normality, power, and violence, but also youth and popular culture. He has published monographs entitled Modernism in Poetry (1995), W.H. Auden (1999), and Krieg als Metapher im zwanzigsten Jahrhundert (2001) and edited collections on Stereotypes in Contemporary Anglo-German Relations (2000), James Joyce’s Ulysses (2003), and Gender ↔Religion. Another monograph on Eccentricity as well as edited collections on Hybrid Humour and Performing Masculinity are in the pipeline. Current projects include one on the intersection of ethics and questions of alterity in the prominent tropes of treasure and treasure hunts. More work on masculinity is also planned, as well as an extension of his interest in violence, conflict, and war. Rainer Emig is currently one of the three members of the editorial board of the Journal for the Study of British Cultures (JSBC).

Lehrstuhl für Englische Literatur- und Kulturwissenschaft. Unterrichtet englische Literatur und Kultur vom Mittelalter bis zum 21. Jahrhundert. Interessiert sich auch für die neuen Literaturen in Englisch, vor allem Literatur aus Asien und Afrika, Irland und Wales. Seine theoretischen Interessen reichen von Psychoanalyse über Dekonstruktion zu postkolonialen Fragestellungen. Seine kulturwissenschaftlichen Interessen zentrieren sich auf Gender und Sexualität und Fragen von Normalität, Macht und Gewalt, aber auch Jugend- und Populärkultur.
