Pre-Studies

The Master's program of Advanced Anglophone Studies is open to people holding a Bachelor's degree in English (Anglistik), American Studies, Cultural Studies, or in related courses of the Humanities. This page details the requirements for the application and helps guide you through the application process. 

HOW DO I APPLY?

There are different modes of application for international students from non-EU/EEA countries, and for German and EU/EEA countries. There are also different application periods for these two groups – please refer to the university profile of the Advanced Anglophone Studies program and open "Admission requirements and application" for details of the application process as well as for access to the online application platform.

Non-EU: As of Summer 2021, applications for the program will be processed through the work and service center for international study applications uni-assist e. V. To apply, you need to follow these steps: 

·      Step 1: Register with uni-assist

·      Step 2: Search for degree programmes and create an application

·      Step 3: Upload the necessary documents

·      Step 4: Check application and send it electronically 

The costs for processing your application are € 75 for the first application and € 30 for each additional application in the same semester. A new application in the following semester costs € 75, each additional application in the same semester costs € 30. EU: Application is processed through the university application platform, which opens only during the application period. The first step of application requires the completion and submission of the online application form. WHICH DOCUMENTS DO I NEED TO HAND IN?

  • Certificate of qualification for higher education (Abitur or Fachabitur)
  • Bachelor's Certificate (in case BA degree has not yet been attained, applicants are asked to forward a transcript of records certifying the current level of credits and the grade point average).
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Proof of English language proficiency if English is not mother tongue. As proof of English proficiency we accept an academic degree in English / American Studies (see "prior studies" in admissions regulations). Otherwise we expect a language level of at least C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)

ADMISSIONS REGULATIONS

For more detail, please consider the official admissions regulations. These are legally binding in their German versions, we do however offer translations while we wait for legally binding translations. Similarly, the language requirements are offered in their official German version plus as a translation.
