British and Postcolonial Studies
Das Lehrgebiet British and Postcolonial Studies verfolgt einen breiten kulturwissenschaftlichen Ansatz unter besonderer Berücksichtigung der postkolonialen Forschung. Die Themen in der Lehre umfassen die Kulturen und Literaturen Großbritanniens von der Renaissance bis zur Gegenwart, insbesondere die Dramen Shakespeares, die Erzählliteratur des 18. bis 21. Jahrhunderts, die anglophonen Literaturen Afrikas, der Karibik und Indiens, Australiens und Neuseelands, Kanadas und Irlands, sowie die afrikanische und südasiatische Diaspora in Großbritannien. Ein besonderes Augenmerk liegt darüber hinaus auf der Ausbildung in den literatur- und kulturwissenschaftlichen Theorien und Methoden.

Die Portfolios enthalten Beispiele für sehr gute und gute Hausarbeiten und Abschlussarbeiten inklusive Gutachten.

BritF2-Survey: Exam Dates and General Information
The exam for the Module Intermediate British Literature and Culture is the written exam for the Survey Lecture British Literatures and Cultures (BritF2).
The exam takes place twice a year: in February and August.
The next exam takes place on 22 February 2024 at 10.00 hrs. The venue is Schloßwender Straße 1, room 105.
- Please register with the Exam Office between 15 and 30 November 2023.
- The exam is a paper pencil-exam. Please bring a black or blue pencil.
- You receive 40 questions to be answered in 60 minutes.
- There are two types of questions: multiple-choice and matching.
- You will pass if you answer 20 out of 40 questions correctly.
- In accordance with the exam regulations, grading follows 2-point steps, i.e. 22 correct answers = 3,7; 24 correct answers = 3,3; etc.
- You will receive the results of the written exam at the end of February 2024.
- In case you withdraw from the exam in February 2024, you can sit the exam on 22 August 2024. Please register again with the Exam Office (registration period: May 2024).
Final Papers
We are happy to supervise all students (BA, M.Ed., AAS, Atlantic Studies) wishing to work on any aspect of British and Postcolonial Studies in their final papers. If the supervising capacities of the lecturers are exhausted, please contact Prof. Dr. Jana Gohrisch. The prerequisites for writing a Bachelor's thesis can be found in the Guidelines (see above).
Coursework Consultations
Classes in British and Postcolonial Studies are supplemented by a tutoring system for written coursework. Aylica Boock will be offering coursework consultations which will assist you with the form and content of your graded course work (Prüfungsleistung).
Before you register for an individual consultation with your lecturer, you should visit the coursework consultation to discuss your topic, thesis statement, methodological approach, etc.
Please study the Guidelines and Reading Material British and Postcolonial Studies and fill in the consultation form to prepare for the meeting. To guarantee an effective consultation, hand in the form at least one day before the consultation via Stud.IP or e-mail.
The consultations take place in room 1502.708 or via BBB. Please register for a consultation via Stud.IP. Go to Aylica Boock's profile, click on the tab 'Sprechstunden' and register for a free time slot. You are welcome to attend further consultations as often as you need.
In the course of writing your term paper, you may want to consult secondary sources from our student library which covers such areas as vocabulary and grammar, academic writing, theory and criticism or literary and cultural history. Please contact Aylica Boock during your consultation or via mail if you want to borrow one or more books from the library.
